Senseational OT Students!

Help me give my students a shiny new file cabinet to store their essential sensory bins.

My Project

Students have diverse sensory needs related to sight, sound, touch, smell, taste, movement (vestibular), and body awareness (proprioceptive). These needs are heightened for students who have a diagnosis of autism, or various physical or developmental disabilities which necessitate receiving occupational therapy in school. When students receive OT service, their sensory needs are supported fully while they engage in their academic and fine-motor tasks. Our sensory department has various bins that provide the tactile, visual, and proprioceptive input students require. The children get to explore a rice bin, a sand bin, as well as bins with building materials such as Lego, foam blocks, and shapes. These are provided as sensory breaks in between completion of challenging learning tasks.

Although we have worked hard to build these sensory resources, we unfortunately do not have a proper place to store them.

We are currently utilizing a very worn-out, scratched, rusty and damaged file cabinet that desperately needs to be replaced. This change is needed to functionally open the drawers without strain. We also wish to create a more aesthetically pleasing sensory space, which the new shiny and red cabinet would so wonderfully do for our students. This new cabinet would change the dynamics for the students who require OT, literally brightening their day. Thank you so much for caring about the students who require OT, and making a huge positive difference.
