My students need STEM resources that also provide good fine motor and sensory experiences to encourage an interest in preschool activities and learning.
This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
Kids are active learners and they love joining in with hands-on interaction, play, and discovery. They love new experiences especially those that involve sensory play and visually enticing activities!
My students have a variety of special needs including Developmental Delay, ADHD, Autism Spectrum Disorder, Cerebral Palsy, and Down Syndrome.
Our school population consists of 60% typical students and 40% of students with mild to severe learning and physical disabilities. As an occupational therapist, I get to help students with unique abilities reach their full potential and explore the world around them.
My Project
The light pad, motion discovery tubes, tumbletree timbers, and other supplies will help my students engage in preschool STEM activities while developing age appropriate fine and visual motor skills with the added benefit of sensory activities. These tools will provide opportunities to manipulate , build, design, and learn about the effects of light. All of the items will allow them to have a more productive learning experience.
My project will allow my students to be more engaged in their classroom setting, to increase purposeful learning, to focus on STEM skills, and to improve fine and visual motor skills and tactile and awareness skills while making learning fun.
