I am the special education teacher of 2 amazing 15 year old twin brothers who from birth were diagnosed with a rare syndrome that is extremely complex. Both of my students are completely deaf and are blind in one eye, with only limited vision in their seeing eye. The syndrome also affects their heart, sinuses, and physical growth development.
In spite of their complex disability, these brothers spark joy in the lives of others on a daily basis.
They put forth a lot of effort to do tasks that many often take granted.
Due to their disability, these students require a heavy sensory diet to address their complex needs.
My Project
Part of the sensory needs of my students can be addressed through physical activity. Even though these students fatigue easily, it is important to help build their stamina as they work towards more independence in the future.
With the use of a stationary bike and a fitness trampoline, my students could experience many great health benefits such as increased joint mobility, improved cardiovascular health, and improved balance; not to mention the learning benefits of sustained attention and increased stamina.
This equipment will help meet the unique sensory needs of my students. I look forward to being able to supply them with the items needed for a sensational sensory experience.
