This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

Prekindergarten is my favorite grade level to teach. Students come in with a natural sense of wonder and curiosity and I love providing hands on activities for them to explore and experience. Many times our students come in having never painted, rolled out playdough snakes, or had time to explore sand.

Providing students with tactile experiences helps develop their motor skills, helps improve concentration and develop self confidence.

Student can fill and dump, work on capacity and volume, cause and effect, visual art with foam and washable fingerpaints, explore different states of matter (liquid, semi-solid, solids) all while learning through their senses of touch.

Often when our students come to us, they have not had sensory experiences whether it be due to lack of exposure, fear of getting dirty, or fear of textures. Offering multiple ways to explore different textures such as sensory matching seashells, a texture walk with socks or barefoot, or to just move their hands around in sensory materials will strengthen the small muscles in their hands and fingers to better prepare them for drawing and writing in the future in a fun and engaging way.
