My Students

Sensational does not begin to describe the students I work with in room 26. Hello!

Welcome to room 26; where special learners come to grow and learn among their peers.

We are a self-contained classroom that services students with special needs in grades 3-5. There are ten wonderful students whom I have the pleasure of working with. One thing that makes them so special is how individual they each are. One of my students loves animals (specifically sharks!), while another spends his break time creating origami master pieces. But, most importantly, my students are special because they have not given up.

Students in special education face challenges every day, and the fact that these students still come into my classroom with a smile on their face and excited to learn; that is inspiring.

My Project

Through the use of a sensory/ regulation area in my classroom, students who have a very challenging time accessing curriculum will have a better chance at increasing their academic abilities. It is nearly impossible to learn new information when dis-regulated, but with the help of the sensory tent and room divider, my students will have a safe and secure place to go when they are feeling overwhelmed and need a break.

Picture yourself hearing everything twice as loud, and seeing everything twice as bright; now imagine trying to learn while that is happening.

To many of my students this is a daily reality, and without the ability to verbalize that feeling, they often get frustrated and act out.

My goal as a teacher in a self-contained classroom is to ensure that each of my students has their individual needs met, and I will continue to advocate for them until they are able to advocate for themselves.
