Help me give my students multi-sensory tools such as letter magnets, magnetic boards, letter stampers, sensory play dough, word building kits, and literature charts to improve phonemic awareness, phonics, and reading comprehension skills.
Our first graders at B.L.E. are learning to read through multi-sensory activities. They are a diverse group of students with a variety of learning styles. Many young learners have sensory processing needs, exceptional learning differences, or kinesthetic/active learning styles, which require a “hands on” approach to reading.
Research supports multi-sensory activities, which not only support students with exceptional needs and sensory processing issues, but also enhance the learning of the typical first grader, who developmentally needs to experience the components of reading through auditory, visual, tactile, and kinesthetic activities.
My Project
Reading instruction is more effective and engaging through kinesthetic/multi-sensory learning activities. Multi-sensory activities include auditory, visual, tactile and kinesthetic activities to strengthen memory and learning.
First graders especially benefit developmentally from multi-sensory tools.
Beginning readers require a sensory experience to see, touch, hear, and manipulate letters to practice spelling patterns and build sentences.
The magnetic letters, magnetic boards, letter stampers, sensory play dough and word/sentence building kits provide the students with a variety of learning tools to meet their sensory needs.
This project will provide each student with his/her own sensory tools to practice letter sounds, make words, and build sentences through instructional activities and learning centers.
These sensory tools enhance and reinforce the foundational skills needed for phonemic awareness, phonics, and reading comprehension. Multi-sensory tools help students with a wide range of learning needs and are motivating, engaging, and fun for all students!
