My students need a variety of engaging, hands-on activities, like color discovery tubes, a bug discovery kit, and watch-it-grow window greenhouses, to explore and experiment with in our science center.

My Students
Young children need many opportunities to ask questions, predict outcomes and investigate various aspects of the world around them.
I teach a prekindergarten class in a Title 1, low income school.
In order to be accepted into our program, each student went through a screening process and all have been deemed "educationally at-risk." Many of my students come from low income families and qualify for free or reduced lunch.
My Project
I have chosen activities that correlate with our curriculum's units of study throughout the year. For example, my students can make predictions when using the Sink or Float Exploration kit during our unit on "Wind and Water," use the Window Greenhouses to observe the process of their seeds becoming plants while we discuss "Things That Grow," and explore color mixing with the Color Discovery Tubes when we learn about "The World of Color." These hands-on activities will allow my students to work with peers or independently during our center times as they learn to form hypotheses and experiment with various ways to solve problems.
Although our curriculum focuses on literacy and math, I believe that science experiences are an important part of a well-rounded education.
Science encourages children to think creatively and strengthens problem solving skills. Your donation will give my students fun and engaging materials to reinforce and enhance the skills they need to become better thinkers and problem solvers. Thank you so much for considering my proposal.
