Our school serves only Pre-K students who come from all over the district. Our classroom is filled with a diverse group of 4 year olds. Many of our students come from diverse environments with different life experiences. Our classroom has 22 wonderful, energetic, smart, and deserving students. My students are active, creative, eager to learn, and ready to explore!
For many of my students, the moment they walk through the classroom door will be their first school experience.
My goal is to help my students not only learn the basic fundamentals of school, but to help them learn social skills, foster creativity, and provide a variety of life experiences.
My Project
The purpose of this project is to provide an area with hands on materials for students to explore and create. Students learn best when they are able to use their different senses. Providing various manipulative sensory items encourages students to create their own connection to the world around them. The sensory table and items will benefit our students who are just now beginning their educational journey and learning how to make connections and develop schema for future educational experiences.
Having a sensory table and durable, reusable beads, rings, and balls allows students to engage all five senses through play and exploring.
The sensory table will be used throughout the year to enhance the different units of study. For example at the beginning of the year the table would be filled with water and we would use the alphabet float disks for students to practice naming and recognizing the letters of the alphabet. In the Fall, we would use the different colored beads along with leaves and apples for students to examine. Having the table and the different sensory items will increase the awareness of how our world works and how we use our different senses to learn!
