My Project

Senior year, what a fun, exciting and magical time! senior lunch, senior trip, senior awards night, JOB searches for their post secondary plans, senior PROM and GRADUATION! You wear your nicest clothes under a cap and gown, walk across the stage, get your diploma and make yourself and all of your family and friends so very proud! Senior year will go down as one of the best of your life, one whose happy memories will play over and over in your mind....unless you are an underprivileged minority without the means to purchase nice clothes to allow you to dress for success.

One-third of the seniors from my high school, a Title I high school in South Queens, are food insecure and live in shelters or transitional housing.

This means that suits for job interviews, prom, and graduation cannot be purchased by their families. My students have come to us and asked to borrow clothes for job interviews and many choose to not attend prom due to the cost of a suit, but they deserve better than that. They deserve to be recognized and celebrated and my project will help do just that by allowing them to shop, choose, and purchase their own suit as a reward for graduating. This opportunity helps my students' emotional well-being, as it validates their hard work and allows them to leave their high school career on a high note as well as provide them with a job interview suit for their future.

My students, who took all of their Freshman classes online during COVID, have shown incredible grace, resolve, fortitude, and determination during these unprecedented times. I would love to reward them for graduating and help them dress for success.
