My students need tools such as pocket dictionaries, highlighters, pencils, stickies, and erasers to help them annotate their reading selections and take better notes for college.
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
Do you remember your first college course? The syllabus, the books and the overwhelming lectures? Our students need help to be successful facing these challenges.
Our Senior classes are eager to graduate high school but are lacking the confidence in their note taking skills.
Many of them will be the first in their families to go to college and they are trying to prepare now for that big adjustment. Our students know that the work will be overwhelming at times and we are trying to prepare them with some tools and skills to over come these fears.
My Project
We want to put together an individual Annotation Station for each of our Seniors. They can use it in class this year with us and then take it to college. We want to show them effective ways to go through their reading selections and extract information for their college papers and discussions. We are using signpost methods that we wish to put on small rings so they can travel with their hints and tips. With your donations we will create individual pouches to hold their annotating tools: highlighters, pencils, stickies, and such. We want to give them college care packages with resources they will need. Many of our students are Ells and a pocket Dictionary is a game changer for them. Please help.
Creating these Annotation pouches will enable our students to understand all of the benefits of using various materials to take notes and ask questions.
They will have their own pocket of wisdom and problem solving devices for their journey to college. A simple pouch of post-its, highlighters and such will feel like a treasure trove to our students. Many are from low-income households and these items are a luxury. Please help them to be Work Smart.
Nearly all students from low‑income households
