This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

I teach for a Title I HS in Reno, NV. They are commonly labeled the bad kids, yet I want to empower productive engaged citizens. We do a lot of writing in my senior English classes. These materials will help over 200 student write and print for an entire year.

One project is to advocate for change in a social issue of their choice.

Students in the past have advocated directly for reforms and real and viable solutions. They have gotten themselves into volunteer opportunities, jobs, and scholarship consideration with their work. Other writing projects are job oriented to be more informed regarding their field of choice, ie nurse candidates researching cancer, future real estate agent researching economic pressures on housing.

You will be supporting real and active social engagement among disadvantaged youth.
