I have the honor of serving as the science teacher for four cohorts of phenomenal fourth graders in Nashville. Even with all of the craziness that is virtual learning, they have shown so much resilience and adapted so well to the circumstances (maybe even better than I have).
Although we've spent almost the entire year online, we've still managed to build strong relationships and make some great memories.
They keep my spirits high and inspire me to be a better teacher every single day.
My Project
After an entire calendar year out of the school building and 3/4 of the current school year being virtual, about half of the fourth graders at my school are planning to return to in-person learning in mid-March.
Needless to say, this transition is going to be rough.
Teachers, students, and families at my school are gearing up for what is sure to be an eventful return to the school building in-person after three full quarters of virtual learning. All of our emotions are all over the place. We are excited, but nervous. We are anxious, but eager. More than anything, we want this transition to be as safe and smooth for our kids as possible.
The items that I have requested in this project will hopefully help to ease the nerves of students and families who are choosing to return. They will receive pencil boxes to hold all of their individual supplies, mini hand sanitizers and holders to carry around with them in the building, pouches to keep their masks safe and clean while they eat, mask lanyards to prevent them from getting lost throughout the day, and a personalized pack of tissues.
