Help me give my students raffle prizes that to celebrate their decision day. The following items are all things they can utilize at the college level to reach their full potential without barriers due to lack of resources.
The class of 2020 at NHS is truly full of some of the most amazing students you will ever meet. This is a population full of hard-working, high achieving students who could just use a little extra push and support when it comes to going off to college. We have students going in all directions in life, whether it be to a 2-4 year university, trade school, apprenticeship program, or off to serve our country in the military. Due to many of our students being low income and first-generation, they lack some of the support and resources needed to be successful come post-secondary life. These are hurdles we are constantly trying to overcome at Niles High School, and we truly hope to be able to provide our students with the tools necessary in their next steps.
My Project
A large part of my service each and every day is helping break down the barriers students face when it comes to going off to college. All students deserve a fair shot at attaining a postsecondary degree. Every year during the month of May, students across the United States share their respective college-bound journey with their peers and families. This is a tradition NHS loves being able to participate in as it encourages our students to pursue their post-secondary education and gives them the option to celebrate their successes with our students and community.
During Decision Day festivities, items are raffled off to students who have a path defined and are ready to begin that journey.
Because we are in a low-income community, with a high population of First-Generation College students, most participants do not have the resources to begin that path on a high note. These donations, if granted, will help students and their parents prepare for the next chapter of life.
