Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My class is composed of 55 fifth graders in a general education class, with students with IEP and ELL learners and special education students such as autism.

A typical day in my classroom looks active.

My students are engaged in learning activities that get them moving, talking to their peers, and asking great questions. You will not see a lot of worksheets in my classroom. My students are learning through hands-on experiences.

I teach in a Title I school.

My fifth-grade students come from very diverse families. I am excited to share that my school is a genuinely diverse community. Not only do students come from varying ethnic backgrounds and places, but the life experiences that they’ve had are incredibly unique. My scholars are creative, thoughtful, and full of excitement!

My students are 9 and 10-year children that love coming to school. When school was closed in the spring of 2020 due to the pandemic not only were the kids wanting to come back but we missed seeing their smiling faces every day.

My Project

Our students are resilient and they need our support more than ever. As we transition from traditional schooling to distance learning, it is even more important to give students meaningful opportunities for learning, as well as rewards to increase motivation. During virtual instruction and in-person instruction we are learning that it is essential to build relationships with students so we can give them all the tools they need to succeed, both inside and outside of the classroom. This year, our holiday celebration may look a little different. Some students may be in person and others will be remote. I want to spread some holiday cheer to each and every one of my students. This project consists of Amazon gift cards which will be mailed to each student's home with a personalized Christmas card, candy cane, chocolate, and Christmas ornaments they can decorate.

My students have been working so hard despite the pandemic, and I want to continue to motivate and reward them for their hard work.

These gift cards will not only provide this incentive, but it will ensure that each student, in my classroom, has a gift to open up over the holidays. I want them to know that while we are not sharing the same physical space all the time, I recognize their hard work. I hope you can help me spread some holiday cheer by contributing to this project.
