Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
Do you remember visiting a pumpkin patch as a small child? Do you remember experiencing the wonder at seeing all the pumpkins in the field, all the different sizes, shapes, and colors? And the excitement at picking one out and trying to lift it up?
I work in a PreK-5th grade Title I school in the heart of Washington, DC.
My classroom is an early childhood self-contained Head Start classroom. My students are 3-, 4-, and 5-year-old children with a range of developmental disabilities.
My school is a multicultural community growing and learning together. We refuse to compromise on the excellence our children and community deserve. We are driven by our passion and core beliefs resulting in limitless outcomes for all of our children. We partner with families to foster the development of informed and curious citizens who have all the tools necessary to achieve at the highest levels and who are empowered to question, challenge and change the world.
My Project
Help send the PreK “Pumpkins” to the Pumpkin Patch! By contributing to this project, you will help the entire PreK program (5 classrooms of eager children) to take a field trip to Butler’s Orchard for pumpkin picking and fall fun! This is a wonderful opportunity for the children to experience the wonders of the farm and witness the beauty of autumn.
The children will pick their own pumpkin from the pumpkin patch, visit the farm learning stations, jump in the hayloft barn, swoosh down the giant slides, visit barnyard animals, and explore the straw maze. By participating in this field trip, the children will learn about the life cycle of the pumpkin, learn where and how seasonal food is grown, and experience the beauty of autumn on the farm.
As Head Start classrooms, we cannot go on field trips that charge families for admission, and my school does not have a budget for field trips.
This is an awesome opportunity which my students would not normally have because of the cost and distance. By funding this project you will give us access to high quality experiential learning on the farm.
