My Students

Our Speech and Debate Team is one of the largest and most diverse teams in the United States. Our 200 members stay nearly every day after school to practice and, on any given weekend, at least 50 of them are competing at either a local or a national circuit tournament.

The majority of kids on our team do not speak English as a first language at home and are first-generation Americans.

In my 34 years as a coach at our school, our team has included dozens of state and national champions.

My Project

The National Speech & Debate Association National Championship tournament is the capstone tournament of the year. Students have to earn a spot to go, and only the top two students in each category in the whole New York City District make the cut. It is so competitive that the vast majority of students in Speech & Debate never qualify for this tournament, but we have qualified a number of students across multiple categories this year.

These kids represent the best of the best, and your support will enable them to speak their truth at the most prestigious tournament of the year.
