I am a 5th grade teacher at Henry H. Haight Elementary which is a Title I (federally assisted) school in Alameda, CA. This year I want to empower my "diverse as they come" class of 32 students with "choice". So when it came to possible field trips one student mentioned a trip to Mars. We all laughed and tried to think of more plausible activities. However that same week I came across a pamphlet from The Chabot Space and Science Center in Oakland containing the title "Voyage to Mars." Bingo! It is a hands-on science based activity where students take on various roles as astronauts. From mission control in Houston to replacing existing crew members to scientific explorations of the Red Planet (not to mention a few planned mishaps), all 32 students will master their own responsibilities while maintaining teamwork. The activity has an outstanding reputation that meets countless state science requirements (shh...don't let the students know they're learning). The only limit is their imagination...and the costs. This unforgettable experience will not be possible without your assistance. There will countless pictures and smiles. We thank you for your consideration.
