Help me give my students helpful grounding technique materials that will support them in and out of the classroom. My students need easy to grab coping items when they are struggling with anxiety and stress.
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Project
The materials I have requested will help support my project to provide self soothe kits to students experiencing an overwhelm of anxiety and stress. Self soothe kits exist to help individuals get to a calmer place by choosing a healthy way of coping. It also serves as a grounding tool in which students can focus on their 5 senses. A great grounding technique I teach to students is to look for 5 things they can see, 4 things they can touch, 3 things they can hear, 2 things they can smell, and 1 thing they can taste.
My goal is to bring awareness to anxiety relief on campus and to have more students seek for support in the social worker office.
Students walk out of my office with a smile on their face ready to use their self soothe kit at any point of their day! The kits are special because they are full of things students love and they can continue to add on. I would love to provide a self soothe kit to every student who walks into my office. The pencil pouches will serve as the "kits" and students can easily carry them in their backpacks, gym bags, or purses. I have included helpful items such as fidget toys and playdough, scented chapsticks, lotions, and handsanitizer. Taste related items such as gum and candy can also serve as relief. Students identify doodling and coloring as coping skills, pens and journals are also included in my project. I also added a rug, as sitting on the ground is another grounding technique I teach. The rug will add a level of comfort to my office. Thank you!
