Self-Service Retail Technology System for Equipment Lending Library

Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Project
Students and staff across our campus know that they can come to our STEAM-centered Maker Space and Computer Science classroom (Fab Lab) to borrow art and fabrication materials, electronics, and other equipment.
This project equips the Fab Lab to deploy an online lending library with items that can be marked as unavailable or available, depending on if they are currently in use, or stored in the classroom ready for use.
We want to be able to easily remember what equipment has is borrowed, and which borrowers faithfully care for and return equipment, clean, operational, and on time.
These materials include an iPad and Anti-Theft Tablet Kiosk Countertop Stand, along with a Rongta POS Printer and rolls of thermal paper which enable us to build a system that students can use to check out equipment or self-service their approved borrows, and print their own receipts.
The extension cord helps us install the system in a hard-to-reach area without an electrical port.
This system helps students become job-ready for roles or careers in retail or library service, customer service, inventory management, and on-demand services engineering or product management. Student-led tasks from our related project management boards include copywriting, content management in our CMS, reading and analyzing logs to assess use patterns, and marketing and advertising to make student and staff borrowers aware of our inventory and the borrowing process.
