My Students
Many of my readers are reluctant and/or new readers. The students I serve come from a variety of cultures and socioeconomic backgrounds. I am a hardworking librarian trying to instill the love of reading to a group enthusiastic readers I am fortunate to be able to serve a variety of backgrounds.
My school was filled with happy learners and well adjusted PreK thru 3rd graders until the Coronavirus happened.
My enthusiastic learners would come to the library ready to hear a wonderful story. I can see them now as they walked down the hall with smiles on their faces and books in their hands. Not only were they ready for me to read, but ready to pick out books with wonderful topics of all kinds.
My Project
When we left school, we were making a list of different books with felt material to make our story come alive. Their little eyes were dancing with glee as we listed books and talked about the different topics we would like to order. My plan was to ask DonorsChoose.org for a document camera, books with felt stories and a board, but the virus sent us home.
Once my material hopefully gets funded, I will use my online Zoom account with my students.
The students will be able to log on and participate in my storytime activities. My online stories would be combined with creative learning activities and adapt to my students' different learning styles. My students would be able to participate in the stories by creating their own stories and use their storytelling skills. I would also show students how to make their own felt story puppets.
Next, the document camera will increase my book image, so all of the students can see the pages clearly. These items will help increase my online stories and help children to connect to the library.
