it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Project
My students are creative, curious, and eager to express themselves, but our classroom art supplies are limited. They come from diverse backgrounds, and many don’t have access to quality materials outside of school. I want to provide them with opportunities to explore their creativity in a meaningful way as we kick off a new school year. This project will bring vibrant oil pastels and high-quality art paper into our classroom, just in time for a special back-to-school art project.
At the start of the year, we focus on building classroom community and helping students reflect on who they are and what makes them unique.
Using these materials, students will create expressive self-portraits and personal art pieces that celebrate their identities, hopes, and goals for the year ahead.
Oil pastels are an especially engaging medium because they offer bold color and immediate results, perfect for young artists who are learning to translate their ideas visually. Combined with sturdy art paper, these supplies will allow students to explore blending, layering, and texture in ways that truly bring their stories to life.
Art is more than just a creative outlet — it enhances critical thinking, emotional expression, and motor skills.
