This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
My students are bright, inquisitive, and excited to learn about art. I teach in an urban Title I High School. My students range from grades 9 to 12 and they are the best kids, but the school operates on a tight budget and has little to no funding for art. It’s important to me that they have all the resources they need for their artwork.
As their teacher and mentor, nothing would please me more than to just hand students the supplies they need.
My Project
In art class, students are learning about portraiture, and color. My students need painting supplies for Fundamentals of Art class. It’s important to me that they have all the resources they need for their art class and work. Art is a universal language that we should all have the opportunity to learn. Since helping to build a visual arts curriculum from nothing at my high school, I have successfully grown an art program that rivals schools with larger budgets and more established programs. I need the supplies in my classroom to provide my students with a full understanding of art making.
