Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Project
Learning environments are essential for all students, especially my students! Students need help calming their anxious nervous systems and building supportive relationships and positive learning environments. Schools are ideal for providing this support, yet often lack the funding and resources to deliver best practices.
Mindfulness has substantial social-emotional benefits for students.
Students will find it much easier to focus and engage in the classroom while practicing strategies by using the chair bands at their feet. Mindfulness has been proven to help reduce stress, improve self-esteem, and help when navigating challenging peer interactions. It will also be very beneficial to have the sand slide through their fingertips as they are practicing calming techniques. Classrooms benefit as a whole from a collective calm. Students are less likely to bully others as they learn to be calmer and more self-aware.
There are many benefits associated with a calm classroom that practices calming strategies. My students will use these calming, sensory items, such as the Squishmallows and the emoji plush mini pillows, to build on the mindfulness practices we are creating as part of our school culture and learning environments.
