My Students

Magnolia Elementary School is made up of 550 students from TK - 5th grade. We are proud to be a Title 1 School with over 94% of our students qualifying for free or reduced lunch. Our staff works tirelessly to build relationships with our families... many who have not had positive experiences with their own education.

Our students literally come from all over the world.

It is amazing to see how they adapt to their new environment, learn a new language, and begin building relationships with friends and staff. Many of our families live in transitional living situations but Magnolia is home-base where they know their students will be fed, taught, and loved each day!

My Project

We know students hierarchy of needs must be met before they can learn. Many of our families have been displaced due to the pandemic. Housing in San Diego is already expensive and scarce, and I see our families really struggling. Some families are staying with friends/family, living in their car, and even in our local shelters. Many have lost everything as they do not have the means to put their belongings in storage. As a school counselor, I try and help our families find housing. It would be nice to send them with a bag of toiletries as they navigate transitional living.
