Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Project
I love my students. They work as hard as they’re able to in the classroom, but many of them have experienced trauma. This not only impedes on their learning, but effects other critical areas of brain development. I’m committed to creating a calming corner this year, where my students can practice lifelong strategies and skills to help them name, accept, manage, and express their emotions. The light covers will provide a calming atmosphere. The posters will make it a designated space. The weighted blanket will help settle nerves and restlessness. The drawing boards will help them breathe. Each of these items will add to the environment, and will be used as a way to teach SEL strategies we teach in our curriculum.
The classroom materials, such as the posterboard, pencil, sharpener, and tape dispenser, will help keep our classroom running efficiently.
Lastly, The math manipulatives and engineering materials will help me push our learning. The math manipulatives will help me when I am working in small groups with students who are not quite access in grade level material. The engineering materials will help spark interest in STEM, while providing valuable hand eye coordination practice, fine motor skill building, problem-solving, and creativity.
My students deserve a high-quality, rigorous education. Your donation will greatly help me in reaching that goal for every last student in my classroom.
