Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

I'm so excited to offer my K-2nd Graders small group social-emotional learning stations during our counseling lessons! During our 35 minute lessons together, students will rotate through the following play-based SEL stations that are aligned with the CASEL 5 competencies:

SEL Stations:

1. Small group SEL mini-lesson with me, their school counselor! This may include a short activity or a book read aloud. CASEL: All competency areas

2. Mindful Coloring: mindful practice of coloring mandalas, mazes, and eye-spy activities to calm the nervous system. CASEL: Self-Management

3. Fidget Practice: students will get to practice the correct use of various types of fidgets with clear guides on what makes something a fidget instead of a toy. CASEL: Self-Management, Self-Awareness

4. Charades: Kids will practice acting out different social skills, emotions, and scenarios in a game setting. CASEL: Relationship Skills

5. Mindful Stacking: Using various tricky stacking tools, students will practice their balance and calm bodies to see how high they can stack things. This helps promote self-regulation and problem-solving. CASEL: Self-Awareness, Self-Management

6. Mindful Breathing: Kids will use various breathing tools to help practice slow and steading breathing. This proven skill helps with self-regulation and is a great skill for managing big feelings. CASEL: Self-management

7. Recognizing Emotions: Students will use felt faces to create and match various emotions. This is a foundational skill for practicing empathy. CASEL: Self-Awareness, Social Awareness
