Help me give my students the ability to grow their SEL (social emotional learning) by giving them tools to use when interacting with others, as well as understanding their own feelings.
I am the counselor. I absolutely adore my kids. They come from such diverse homes and encounter different types of diversity each and every day. The best part of my job is building relationships with them. Research shows that teachers/counselors who build positive relationships with all their students make a significant contribution to their success in and out of school.
I am an advocate for whatever they are going through, in the home and here at school.
If they are not okay at home, then we may need to help them once they get to school to manage the issues at home so they can be successful in the classroom. I advocate for their academic and social achievements.
My students are amazing because although they face many difficult trials; they are full of hope, resilience, and perseverance. They understand that they still have the choice to be the best student and great friend.
My Project
My school is in a low income community. We are a title 1 school and have a lot of students from different backgrounds. A lot of my students have shared their stories, and face difficult situations. I want to give them the tools that they may need as they grow older. In addition, my students had some of their learning cut short due to COVID 2020. As a result of this I see a deficit in their SEL proficiency. With funding from this project the opportunity to grow their SEL skills and become a better functioning member of society.
More than half of students from low‑income households
