I am going into my second year of teaching at a Title I school, and I have been given the opportunity to loop with my students to the grade above. Although my first year of teaching was difficult due to the presence of COVID-19, it demonstrated to me how resilient and strong my students were. They were able to try their best despite the copious number of distractions and hardships present around them. They grew so much last year emotionally, socially, and academically, and I am looking forward to seeing how much more they can succeed in the upcoming school year.

My Project
My students with special needs have accumulated a wide variety of experiences that have shaped who they are today. I wish to support the students in my classroom emotionally and socially as they travel through the school year. I would like to provide my students with the SEL tools and resources that will help them throughout life. Some feel anxious in social settings while others have trouble processing their emotions and feelings.
The set of books will help my students understand the emotions that they may be experiencing and the feelings slider will help them communicate that to me.
I will be able to find SEL materials on TeacherPayTeachers that have been created by teachers that have experience in special education who have created resources that they have found to be beneficial. In addition, one student has fine motor difficulties and the bigger pencils will support his writing abilities.
