My Students
My 4 amazing students attend a vocational training school in Brooklyn, NY. They all are on the Autism Spectrum, as well as have multiple disabilities. Many are nonverbal or have limited verbal skills. My students are learning to care for themselves and become as independent as possible within their own communities. My students bring a smile to my face every day, and bring joy to all of those who they encounter.
My students require greater social and emotional supports given the unsteady nature of the world we live in due to Covid-19.
Whether it be remotely or in-person, I strive to ease some of the many anxieties my students and their families may be feeling.
My Project
Social emotional supports are so important for my students, especially with the chaos of living through a pandemic. It is critical for my students to have the therapeutic output to remain calm and free of anxieties given the lack of structure that we all are dealing with due to COVID-19. These supports will not only provide an outlet for my students, but will also serve as a means for greater focus on classroom instruction. Some supports will also be utilized during remote instruction, in order to provide students with the necessary tools to identify their emotions, set daily routines, build on self-help skills and become a greater version of themselves. Now, more than ever, do my students need your support!
