My Students

My special education students have been double affected by COVID-19. Social skills are already an area in which we struggle, and with the increased use of computers and decreased personal interaction, they are struggling to communicate and connect with their peers in appropriate ways.

Social/Emotional Learning directly impacts how well students can learn in the classroom.

This disconnectedness they are feeling is negatively impacting their education.

My Project

These books will be used in daily lesson plans that will define what different emotions are, understanding how to use emotions when dealing with other people, and build skills based on emotions that will help them be successful in school, in later careers, and in life.

These lessons will also teach my students how to self-regulate in and out of the classroom and how to identify things that trigger negative emotions, and solutions to help them cope with all emotions.

As we look to create transition plans and goals for life outside of school, these skills are needed for them to be able to interview for a job, live with other people, and be ready to contribute to the society they live in.
