My Project

In all my years teaching social skills to special education students, it has been tricky to find meaningful ways to teach missing social cues or topics. Especially at the middle school level, students want authentic conversations. Over the last several years, I have found success with introducing topics through with a picture book. Student's love the simplicity of the larger concept and the nostalgia of being read aloud to, it calms them right down and draws them in.

In looking over my class bookshelves, my social skills books need a major facelift.

Students are asking for new, updated and memorable books to share with each other.
