Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My name is Faviola Hernandez and I am working as a school psychology intern. I am coming into a new office and I want to make it a bright inviting space to help engage students when they come in for their counseling services. Because I am so new to the profession, I do not yet have the tools seasoned counselors and psychologists have accumulated through their years of service. I have seen a need for students to be engaged with their hands through creative activities such as drawing and using fidgets when we work on their counseling goals. I want to provide these things for them also as an incentive for working through lessons and a reward for sharing about things that may not be easy to talk about, such as feelings of stress, anxiety, and depression. I want to provide fun and engaging games for them to make the counseling process less daunting and intimidating for them. I also have students who come in when they need a break, and having plushies and snacks for them is part of creating that safe space for them.
