This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

A typical day in our classroom is lively and interactive. I am greeted each morning by students who are eager to help, learn, and have fun. I am proud to be a 5th grade language arts teacher. I love teaching reading and writing, and I want my students to become lifelong learners, too. We enjoy reading novels together, and I love listening to the conversation and critical thinking that develops within the walls of our classroom.

As a Title 1 school, my students inspire me to want to be the best teacher I can be because their future in education is a journey we take together.

Each year, I only have 180 days to make a positive impact on their lives. My hope is to inspire their love of books and writing, even after they leave my classroom.

My Project

I am requesting both construction paper and cardstock, which will be used to design projects and works of art! I also use cardstock to print simple reading and writing resources, which I assemble using small, circular binder clips. For instance, I have assembled writing prompts, spelling guides, editing tools, sentence starters, and more. These binder clips are an easy, portable tool that students can take back to their seat while working independently. Speaking of editing, I am requesting colorful gel pens, which my students can use to self and peer edit their writing. Editing is always more fun with colorful pens!

The supplies I am requesting are basic and essential materials that will allow me to keep my classroom going.

The tape I am requesting is a basic necessity that I use to repair and reinforce the novels in our classroom library. Many of my students lack on-level books at home, so I let them borrow the books from my personal library. They are often well-loved and in need to repair, so I am requesting heavy duty packing tape for this purpose. I want our classroom library books to last for years to come! All of the basic materials I am requesting will be put to great use. Thank you in advance for your support!
