Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Students at our school are dedicated to college and career readiness. College and career is emphasized at every turn. Students take advanced placement courses, dual credit courses, and prepare for the SAT.

Students get a lot of help and attention, BUT THEY NEED DICTIONARIES.

This is a huge need at our school. Dictionaries are now allowed and encouraged on state testing, but the number of students with dictionaries is very low. Some teachers have purchased their own class sets to share with students, but I envision every student having access to a dictionary.

My Project

These 74 dictionaries will be used every day in our English I and II classrooms and on state tests. Students will be able to look up spelling and meaning of words and to learn more words. Having class sets will help develop the habit of looking up words in the dictionary. I chose expanded dictionaries to increase their word knowledge.

The world is organized alphabetically.

Dictionary skills allow us to find our way around the world: Lists, catalogs, indexes, and online resources use alphabetizing. Student must not lose this skill. We want all students to have 1:1 access to dictionaries.
