My Students

We're a highly sought after neighborhood school that serves families from all types of backgrounds. We have students that wake up each day knowing they're loved and will be well cared for, and we have others who aren't so fortunate.

Our kids come in every shade of the human rainbow and embody all that is beautiful about childhood.

We have kids with learning and emotional disabilities, kids living in poverty, kids who are identified as gifted, kids we love. We meet each child where he or she is, and we support them as they grow into the individuals they are meant to be. They are special and unique individuals but not without their challenges.

My Project

My students are at an age where learning about the world outside of the one they already know is critical. Learning about individuals from a variety of backgrounds who have overcome obstacles is informative, interesting, and inspirational.

The books in this collection have been carefully chosen to provide kids access to a wide range of individual stories, and to help kids expand their understanding of the diverse world in which we live.

Many of the individual books correspond with themes that I already teach. Their inclusion will provide greater depth of understanding for students. The books sets are for use in small learning groups, and will be used in conjunction with a great deal of discussion.
