Seeing the World Through Braille!

My Students

I am a Teacher for the Blind and Visually Impaired for the SCC Public School System. I have nineteen students on my caseload with blindness and varying degrees of visual impairments. I am itinerant and travel to eight schools throughout the district to service my students. I visit three elementary schools, three middle schools, and one high school on a weekly basis. I love visiting each child and watching them get excited about learning. They never cease to amaze me and they never let their disability stand in their way!

My Project

This project will reach my students who are either blind or function at the level of blindness. Students who are blind use tactile measures to learn about the world around them.

Therefore, these materials would greatly enhance their curriculum in an enjoyable way.

The tactile books I am asking for will be a fun way to learn the alphabet, vegetables, fruits, etc. in addition to concrete objects. The braille labeler is a wonderful way for students to learn the item name and spelling of objects they come in contact with during their everyday life such as a sink, door, closet, etc.

Due to virtual learning, my blind students are not receiving many of the same opportunities that their sighted peers are and these items can help them in their journey to learning braille and the world around them.
