This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
I teach an extraordinary group of girls in a inner city public school. Like many schools we are in need of resources and materials. I think my girls need it most because they don't have technology resources available to them at home. The girls in my class are sophomores and juniors. The age where you begin to explore where you are going and who you will be.
My students are exploring different careers in technology. One student might have created a beautiful building for an architecture project, another might have an absolutely stunning photojournalism project, and another might have created a phenomenal logo design for their communications project. They are doing amazing work but no one gets to see it. It is stuck in the computer.
I want my students to take pride in their work. I want it displayed in the hall to receive admiration from their peers. I want them to be able to take it home and instill pride in their parents. I would like a color printer to create a record. I also need paper to print on and ink for the printer. Their work does exist. It is real and available for all to see. It is not just some file on a computer.
You can help! You can make their work real!
Hard work and potential should never go unnoticed.
