Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My 8th grade students are open-minded and passionate for social justice. Our school does not have a formal library, and as a first-year teacher I have been working on building up our own classroom library. My students have expressed a mature awareness that many of our books lack minority representation. Based on student-request, we would like to fill our shelves with books with strong minority protagonists or written by minority authors.

With thoughtful book choices at their disposal paired with their personal readiness to grow their reading and writing skills this year, this kids will be unstoppable and totally ready for high school

My Project

Help give my students a library with thoughtful books that include minority and underrepresented people groups and books that are high-interest low-difficulty for my struggling readers who just need a good story to get excited about reading, My school does not have a shared library, and I am a first-year teacher trying to fill my shelves with meaningful and engaging stories that will allow all my students to feel like their experiences and the experiences of others are honored. Please help us live the stories of people different from us as these books provide us with a window into their lives, and please help us find our own stories in the pages we read as the book provides us with a mirror.
