Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My fifth graders are kind, curious and excited about school! They have come to our school from all over the world and share one thing- they love to learn. My students are fascinated by the world around them and are discovering the ways in which they can contribute to making the world a better place.

My Project

I am working to build a robust classroom library, with something for all of my students. This means not only having books of different reading levels and topics but also having books where my students can see themselves.

Being new to my school district and teaching online last year means building a classroom library from scratch this year.

I have scoured the second hand stores in my town and have the foundation for a good library but most of the characters in the books I've found are white and are written by white authors. This project will add books written by authors of color and featuring children of color. It is important for ALL of my students to have access to these books.
