My Students
My students are extremely hard workers that have taught me so much in my 1st year teaching. We have had discussions on the current political climate and we have used our knowledge of what we have learned to become more engaged in a civic way.
All of my students that I teach come from underserved communities and yearn for the ability to enhance their understanding of historical concepts with real-life applications and materials to interact with.
While they may not have access to as many resources as other schools and students have access to, these students have shown exemplary results and a drive and motivation that astounds me and encourages me to provide the best materials for them.
My Project
These classroom materials will provide support for students in Social Studies class. The whiteboards and markers will allow students to actively engage in class by participating in discussion and being able to raise their boards as Checks For Understanding on Social Studies material. I also want to use the global for students to see other countries and to point to a country they want to focus on
Students will use these materials to enhance their learning in class and help them see themselves in History class.
Instead of learning boring facts, the students will be able to use these materials to actively engage in the lesson and see History as an everchanging subject. One in which we can make connections to today's current events.
I will use the globe and the whiteboards to have students actively learn in class and see history in the context of the world. Access to resources such as pencils and classroom materials is important for students to have the foundation to succeed and feel confident in class.
Students in the classroom will be able to look at History through the eyes of their backgrounds instead of in the perspective of someone who looks and sounds nothing like them.
