My Students
Building connections between old and new knowledge helps enlighten and enhance learning. Classroom discussions help broaden my students' knowledge base about the topics and ideas we're studying. Although my students attend a Title I school, they love working together, discussing new topics, as well as making connections between what they're learning and the real world.
My students range in abilities and languages spoken--they are diverse learners who need a variety of teaching strategies to help them learn.
My students come to school eager to learn from various living situations such as single parents, foster homes, homeless shelters, or extended family living.
Despite their varying home lives, they come to school with a zest for learning.
My Project
My students come from a variety of cultural backgrounds and they love to see themselves represented in the books they read or have read aloud to them. This project is requesting diverse books to use during read aloud time, such as The Playbook, Those Shoes, Mae Among the Stars, and Brothers In Hope: The Story Of The Lost Boys Of Sudan to open up discussions encouraging inclusion, diversity, and multiculturalism. Through rich book club conversations, students are able to see the perspectives of others and gain a deeper understanding of their experiences using the books: A Long Walk to Water, The Dreamer, and The Crossover.
Giving students a wide variety of books where many cultures are represented helps students see themselves within the contexts of the books thus promoting diversity, inclusion, and multiculturalism.
My students are voracious readers and I know they will enjoy these new additions to our classroom!
