Seeing Math

My students need to be able to "see" math. A magnetic dry erase board will allow them to easily see the visuals that will help them "see" math.

My Students

My students are amazing. They have been through so much this year with Hurricane Harvey, yet they come to school ready to learn. My students are from a small community. The biggest thing they have in this community is the school. Currently we are displaced due to Harvey. My classroom is a storage room with concrete floors, half walls, and a curtain for a door.

My students come to my class to have a second opportunity to "see" math.

My students have their core math time with their classroom teacher and then during a 30 minutes acceleration time they come to my class. They are excited to come into the small, safe group where together we can enjoy math.

My Project

I am an accelerated math interventionist. I work with kinder students and fourth grade students that need a little extra help in math. There is a quote that says "If you can not see math, you can not do math". My goal is to help my students see math. I have a magnetic Rekenrek, or Math Rack, that is amazing for helping students see math. I also use a magnetic ten frame. My students would benefit from these items if they could be on a large, magnetic white board that is also a dry erase board. My students need to opportunity to see the math on the Rekenrek and ten frame then be able to write what they are seeing.
