My Students

I have a self-contained class with 8 students with an Intellectual Disability or Autism classification.

My students all want to learn but have difficulty processing and retaining information and therefore need more time and multiple avenues to explore and absorb the information/content.

In every classroom, there are students who are not functioning at the same speed and level as their classmates. That is especially true of students with special needs and evident in my classroom. In a class with 8 students, you have multiple functioning levels. Trying to adapt to the curriculum so that every student has access to the same content/skill is challenging. This is evident in my classroom.

My Project

My students need pictures/picture symbols to help them read and write.

By having a printer in the room, it will allow for printing of color pictures to use for their writing.

It is sometimes difficult to predict what my students are going to write about/say about a topic and therefore I may not have pictures printed out already to add to their writing. If they dictate a story to a staff member, their story can then be written out/typed out in pictures and printed in the classroom and added to their work/writing binder right then and there.

They can also then read the story they dictated with their classmates during share out. As an added bonus my students will be able to print pictures about what we are learning about to have as reference or add to our project that we will be creating about the topic.

It might sound odd that in this time of technology and remote learning they did last year that we would need a classroom printer but it is essential for my students in their learning.
