Seeing an Owl's Life Unfold Before Their Eyes

My students need 3 classroom kits for owl pellet dissection that include an owl pellet for each student and additional resources to make it more meaningful.

My Students

What better way to study food chains and food webs than picking apart an animals waste to see what it's eaten!

My students attend an urban public school.

All our students receive free breakfast and lunch. They LOVE science and many of them tell me they hope to be scientist when they are older. Many of them however, want nothing more than to watch TV. I want to show them how exciting real life can be!

My Project

My students already have a passion for science, but taking the role of a scientist and dissecting animal matter is not something they get to do very often! This will allow each student to dissect their own owl pellet and explore what that owl had eaten. This ties in directly with our science standards of food chains as well and animal dependency.

I think this project has the potential to inspire many students about the wonders of nature and empower them as explorers.

This will hopefully change their view of animal waste as something gross to a learning opportunity. I would love for my students to see that what we read about in our text has evidence that they can touch and explore!
