This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

We are a project-based school where students collaborate together to problem solve and create project outcomes that are relevant to the real world. We have a very diverse student population with students coming from very different walks of life. At any given time, you will find students building, researching, or presenting. You will always find students at the center of the learning, and the learning will most often be hands-on.

Our school is a publicly-funded charter, embracing a philosophy of learning through community-based projects that are conducted as collaborations among different subject areas.

Our students are admitted through a lottery to create a population representing our diverse county, including a range of socioeconomic classes, different learning levels, and military families. We work hard to level the playing field and make sure that all students have equal access to opportunity.

We have a number of afterschool programs aimed at giving students access to learning experiences that they may not have access to during a normal school day.

My Project

Next semester, our students are planning a project where they will work in collaborative groups to partake in community service collaborations throughout our community. An element of the project is designing and building art, furniture and sculptures that are inspired by nature to donate to the groups we are working with. The project will be the perfect mix of connecting environmental and biological content to hands-on learning and creativity. Students will seek inspiration from designs that have evolved in nature and bring them into build plans. The hope is to create furniture and art and designs for members of our community.

To make this project happen, we are in need of a Benchtop Jointer that we will use to straighten and join donated wood for the project.

Thank you for considering donating to this learning experience.
