it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
I use graphing calculators with my students every day in class. Using this technology enables my students to engage in the problem solving process. However, they are not able to engage in their homework the same way because the school will not allow them to take home calculators.
My high school mathematics students are inner city kids who attend a large, public high school in New York.
They are very motivated, but many struggle with basic math skills. They love using calculators in class and wish they had access to them at home.
My Project
I use graphing calculators with my students every day in class. Using this technology enables my students to engage in the problem solving process. However, they are not able to engage in their homework the same way because the school will not allow them to take home calculators.
The school does not allow students to bring home calculators, so it is hard for them to practice math independently. My goal is for students to engage in higher level thinking outside of the classroom. Having calculators will help achieve this.
If students were able to bring home calculators they can compete with their peers who are able to purchase their own.
They will be able to challenge themselves with higher level work. I always used graphing calculators in college, and I want my students to get used to using them on their own. Help my students reach higher levels of education.
