My students need a projector in order to stay focused, motivated, and have a better chance to succeed in the general education curriculum. They have varying disabilities and all can benefit from the use of a visual presenter.
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
I teach a self contained special day class with an exceptional group of students. My students are in grades 3-4, the majority being in the 4th grade. We are in a high-need community and are in a low performing school.
Although my students vary in disabilities, every visitor that I have had has told me they do not believe my class is a special needs class. My students love learning. It is difficult for them but they strive to succeed. Many times, they lose focus during a lesson because they lose their place in the text or are not able to follow along on the worksheet, experiment, or even the overhead projector. The projection is not clear and is very small. At any given moment, I am not able to directly show them a certain reading comprehension strategy or how to solve a math problem without having to replicate the passage or math problem on the board. This takes up a lot of instructional time that could be spent on direct instruction.
With the use of a projector, along with the document camera, I will be able to project the text or worksheet directly to the students without having to stop and write. They will be able to easily see exactly what I am referring to or underlining or reading...etc at that exact moment. They will be focused directly on the object being projected. My student's varying disabilities (from autism to visual) impact their learning in different ways. The use of the projector will serve as a support to help them better reach their goals and access the curriculum more effectively.
Your help will ensure that my students will have the ability to stay focused and motivated throughout the school day. With my guidance and direct visual representation with the use of the projector, my students will have one less obstacle to overcome.
