This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
My students are curious and passionate. They are eager to learn all they can and make a difference in the world they see around them. Many of my students talk about going to college and then coming back to make their community in Hartford a better place. They are brave, bold, and unafraid to speak their minds about what they know is right.
My students are hungry for an education that speaks to their passion and feels relevant to their lives and challenges.
They are empowered and inspired by working for social justice, and, in my classroom, we talk daily about issues my students see in the headlines that affect their daily lives.
My Project
In my international studies class, we hop around the globe, engaging in case studies that feature global issues. We study the economics of globalization, international environmental issues and human migration and focus on people and regions on every continent of the world.
My students are global citizens; they should be able to see the world they live in.
We can use Google Earth on a single screen, but students often need to be able to flip back and forth between maps and graphs, comparing places and regions. The projector is a helpful tool, but we need a set of classroom atlases to be able to see all of the places we'll visit, up close and personal. Having various types of maps (economic, physical, political) will help students draw conclusions about the relationships between these important social studies concepts.
Thank you for helping my students get to know their world!
