This is a STEM project to provide materials for our awesome high school science class and lab. I am requesting batteries, flashlights, and beakers for our students.
We do many activities using flashlights.
For instance, we use them to shine a light on graph paper, changing the angle of how we hold the flashlight. This represents how the sun’s rays hit the earth's surface at different angles. Students then understand how the intense light of the 90-degree light pattern is different than the scattered light of the 30° angle hold; students then hopefully apply this to how the light from the sun heats the earth. New batteries are a must for this activity. (Teens love flashlights and darkened classrooms!) We also use the batteries in our electricity units as we make parallel and series circuits, and the batteries quickly get exhausted.
Although my students are quite careful, we’ve had a lot of breakage of beakers lately. This project will provide a half dozen new large 400 mL beakers to our collection.
Thank you for considering funding this project for my students and my classroom. We certainly appreciate the support of our partners at DonorsChoose.
