My Students

My 24 amazing kindergartners come to school everyday to learn, play, and grow with one another. From learning their ABCs to being able to sound out words, my students work hard everyday to be better readers and writers. Watching their growth throughout the year inspires me to continuously strive for new and exciting ways to make reading more engaging!

Each child in my classroom is learning to read at an individual pace, therefore allowing them to choose and keep books that are at their own reading level will permit for more effective reading.

Many of my students come from single family homes, families where English is a second language, and families who are struggling financially. As their teacher, I would like to expose them to a multitude of opportunities to learn, play and socialize through a variety of teaching strategies. Each and every day, my students show me that despite the hardships they may endure, there is nothing they can't succeed at.

My Project

Allowing my students to store leveled readers in these book pouches will encourage independent reading and increase fluency as they read and reread their favorite books. Having each student receive a book pouch will create a sense of individuality that will inspire my students to read new books and strengthen their reading skills. They will also be able to read with partners who have the same books as they do.

These pouches will decrease damage to books and will allow my students to easily carry several books at once.

Previously, we were using Zip Lock bags to store our books, however, these bags do not always withstand the constant opening/closing of kindergarten hands! Therefore, using durable book pouches will allow for reusing throughout the year!
